About the Author

My name is Amelia and I am an aspiring journalist with a serious passion for all things fashion. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Communication with a major in Journalism and Electronic Media from The University of Tennessee, I set out on one of my biggest adventures yet; the great westward migration. I have now called the state of California home for just under two years- Los Angeles being my stomping ground. Here in LA I pursued yet another degree, but this time around I integrated a whole new realm of creativity. I ventured out of my comfort zone and in addition to creative writing I decided to give the fashion industry a go. In just one year I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) with an Associates Degree in  Merchandise and Product development.

Through this Blog I hope to finally combine my vigor and enthusiasm for writing with my fascination for fashion. Throughout my undergrad I was forced to write about Politics, Current events and Global issues. Now don’t get me wrong, these topics are important and should be held in high regard but there is more to news, and journalism for that matter than death and destruction. I recall a lecture in one of my few remaining semesters when one of my favorite professors said to me, “Now Amelia please enlighten me by explaining to me what it is you would rather be writing about than City council meetings?” My reply, “Shoes and handbags”.

With my second degree completed it was time to buckle down and find a job, which by no means turned out to be an easy feat in this economy.  I am currently working with LA based Joe’s Jeans.  I love my new job because it is a perfect balance between the writing I love and the realm of fashion I so yearn to be a part of each and everyday. So this is my life until I decide to go back to school and pursue a master’s degree- in what I am not entirely sure just yet, hence the career break.  For now I just hope to continue to polish and hone in on my skills and hey maybe you’ll learn something, laugh with me or even disagree with me. Enjoy the blog.

Who would have known that eating a Rice Crispy Treat at the now defunct Big Cup on Eighth Avenue in Manhattan’s burgeoning gay neighborhood in the 90’s would have such an impact on you! I guess the cattiness of the queens dissing the latest styles over bad coffee rubbed off. The right pair of shoes on that sunny day, if I recall correctly, were 6 inch stiletto’s worn by a 6’1″ blond drag queen by the name of Jem Jender….another southern belle! Ah, you make me so proud! Love, Uncle Wobby
